I thought quite a bit about the comment that was made in my last blog. Aron, you are right about wanting to get your ass kicked in lessons. That is what they are there for. What I meant to say was, I don't want to have a negative experience. From my experience, yes I do learn when a professor scares the living shit out of me. I had that happen many times. During my first semester of orchestra, I would have my parts learned! Pratt scared the shit out of me. I certainly didn't want to run the risk of being humiliated in front of the orchestra for not knowing my part. In another sense, I learned quite a bit, but I didn't like the atmosphere. I don't think teachers should use scare tactics. There are better ways to teach. If a teacher scares me away from the viola, what is the point? But I guess I do need my ass kicked.
